1998 Ford Windstar Recall
The 1998 had a recall initiated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) for the Ford Windstar. It was the NHTSA Recall No.: 98B22. It was not
a safety defect in accordance with the Safety Act. However, it was deemed a safety
improvement campaign by the agency. On these minivans sold during the months of
December 1996, and January, February and May 1997, one or both of the two bolts
that hold the front brake caliper anchor plate to the wheel spindle can loosen
and fall out.

If the upper bolt falls out the caliper can pivot outward contacting the inside
of the wheel rim resulting in wheel lockup. The remedy was dealers would have
to tighten the bolts on the front brake caliper anchor plate to the hub and spindle
assembly. If you own a Windstar bought in this year and the months mentioned and
have not done the remedy yet. You may call Ford at 1-800-392-3673 or go to your
nearest Ford dealer to have it checked up.
